Retro Revamp: Behind the Scenes of Ford's Classic Ad I Created
The Ford Beetle has long been an icon of automotive design, captivating car enthusiasts with its unique charm. This journey from the vintage Beetle to the 2011 Beetle Convertible showcases a blend of nostalgia and modern innovation.
My Creative Work
I was challenged with creating an ad for the new ford beetle convertible, the goal of the ad was to retain the vintage aesthetics of the car and blend it with the modern feature of convertibility. Moreover, the requirement for the headline was to be bent. A bent headline is a headline that uses humor, wordplay, or puns to catch readers' attention and make the ad more engaging and memorable. I came up with multiple different headlines over the course of a week. And went onto finalising the one that was best of all. The headline is short yet effective, fulfilling the campaign requirements and goals. Here are some examples of headlines I came up with:
- Half Naked.
- Strips on your command.
- Only one that doesn't open up if it's cut.
- Breathe extra air.
- Premium air.
- Hipster returns.
- When vintage meets luxury.
- Beetle goes turbo!
- Coastal vibes, year long.
- Feel the breeze.
Final Headline: 'Premium air.'
Final Ad:
A Classic is Born
The Beetle's story begins in the late 1930s, but it was post-World War II when it truly gained traction. By 1948, the Beetle's distinctive rounded silhouette had become a symbol of reliability and affordability. Throughout the 1950s and 1960s, its popularity soared, with over 21 million units sold by the 1970s. The vintage Beetle's simple yet robust engineering made it a favorite among young drivers and families alike.
The 2011 Beetle Convertible: A Modern Twist on a Classic
After the original Beetle production ended in 2003, the demand for a modern version remained strong. Ford responded by unveiling the New Beetle in 2011, with an official launch on April 18. This new model was designed to appeal to both longtime fans and a new generation of drivers.
The 2011 Beetle Convertible combined retro aesthetics with contemporary features. Its exterior retained the beloved rounded lines, while the interior was updated with advanced infotainment systems, improved safety features, and a more spacious cabin. The convertible option added a sense of freedom and fun, making it a standout choice for enthusiasts.
Under the hood, the 2011 Beetle offered efficient engines, including a 1.4-liter TSI turbocharged petrol engine and a 2.0-liter TDI diesel engine, delivering a balance of performance and fuel efficiency.
